Putting aside all the hoopla in The Age and on 6PR radio, Catherine Fernando was very comfortable making her debut for the fifths in their last game of the season. The two-time batting average winner for University’s women’s team will be heading to Britain in May to play a summer of cricket over there. As chairman of selectors Derek Bennett said: “Catherine is a dedicated cricketer who has an excellent technique and fully deserved her selection."
Other MUCCers heading to Britain are Leigh Murphy, who will play for Nantwich in the Cheshire League, Chris Grant, who will turn out for Bolton in the Manchester Association, and Tim Newhouse, who will play for Hawarden Park in the North Wales League.
