A second successive finals century from opener Pat O'Beirne and a four-wicket haul from off-spinner Gareth Haeberle have taken the 3s into this weekend's grand final.
The 3s defeated Camberwell by 151 runs at grand final venue Princes Park with captain Stewart Harris also contributing an unbeaten 87 and Phil Neville making 84.
The good news for the 3s was tempered by semi-final defeats for the 1s and 4s. Only Brent Lodding and Tom Trumble performing at the lofty level expected of University players in finals. Former State player Lodding made 96 while Trumble made an unbeaten 76 to put himself in contention for a grand final spot with the 3s.
Trumble comes from a fine cricketing pedigree, being a relative of Hall of Famer Hugh Trumble (pictured). |
