The MUCCers at last performed up to expectations with
four wins out of four against Essendon. The wins have
put all four of our Premier Cricket grades back in finals
contention. The star performers with the bat were Pat
O’Beirne (pictured) with 131 and Brett Murphy, who
showed great maturity by pushing a single to win the game
and go to 99 not out rather than trying to blast a boundary.
Two spinners also had days out, with left-armer Tim Grant
taking 4/21 and leggie Hamish Bull snaring 3/13. Paceman
Greg Kennedy took 3/22.
Matt Schofield took time out from wedding preparations
to blast a breathtaking unbeaten 139 in the 5ths. It was
the triple premiership player’s first innings since
his 40 in last year’s 3rds grand final.
The sweep against Essendon capped off a fantastic weekend
for the club, with Scott Sanders and Anthony Barton being
picked in the Victorian under-19 and under-17 squads respectively.
