Arguably the club’s most talented
cricketer, Marc Murphy, is off to Carlton Football Club
as the nation’s number one AFL draft pick.
Faced with the tough choice of fame and fortune at Carlton
or paying $152 to play for us, Marc understandably opted
for the former and life with Denis Pagan.
All MUCCers hope that Marc will be back playing for
University CC in the 2020 season after a stellar football
career.
The good news is that our club song will stay close
to Marc’s heart during his time at Carlton with
only a minor tweak required to change “We are
the Uni boys” to “We are the navy blues”.
Murph has done the club proud, playing a major role
in the Victorian under-17 cricket team's championship
win in 2004 and forming an at-times formidable MUCC
middle-order with his brothers Leigh and Brett.
But best of all though were Pagan’s comments after
drafting Marc.
“The biggest thing I have liked about Marc since
I have known him is his character, the way he carries
himself,” said the Carlton coach. “I couldn't
be more pleased because character and personality play
such a significant part and can’t be undervalued.”
Pagan’s comments not only sum up Marc but also
the MUCC philosophy.
