The 1s, 2s and 5s chalked up five wins out of five between
them but the 3s and 4s' finals hopes were dealt a blow
by washouts when in dominant positions.
State squad members Brendan Joseland and Brett Harrop
(pictured) continued their excellent form in wins against
Prahran and North Melbourne. Joseland made 93 not out
and took 2/26 against North after Harrop had set up victory
against Prahran with 3/18 from 14 overs. It was a good
couple of days for opener Pat O'Beirne with scores of
53 and 45.
Greg Kennedy took 4/47 to move the 2nds to within one
game of top position, but Tony Sidebottom's hat-trick
was to no avail as the 3s and 4s' games were called off.
The 5s kept their winning post-Christmas run going with
Pushan Mukerjee taking 5/13 and opener Andrew Martel making
an unbeaten 63 in a nine-wicket win with 10 overs to spare.
Leg-spinner Rajiv Mukunthan had taken 8/42 in his first
spell for the club to almost set up an outright the round
before. |
